Violence is enticing
Violence is the last resort of the incompetent - Isaac Asimov
Is a quote I found while reading a book called The Elves War Fighting Manual. This has stuck with me for a couple of reasons.
Not only does it sound cool as hell to use as a comeback, but on a deeper level, it resonates with why I choose to remain calm in times of crisis. It’s the idea that succumbing to a violent or rash outburst is all too easy and is the default for many people.
If that is the case, why do it? I pondered on this a bit more today when I saw a street fight, this, coupled with a few other arguments I saw being sparked on the road.
Perhaps there is less pressure to explain a violent reaction, because it is not a logical reaction, we are more “understanding” of an irrational reaction, not because we fully understand it, but because there is no way to explain it.
In the end, I could only come to the conclusion that violence is indeed enticing.
